That's about what we have said on several occasions, when comparing the ice core isotopes with the oceanic foraminifera isotopes: "whatever happened, it happened in the oceans first" as can be seen here:
(after I drafted this, years ago, the data were revised, making the difference much less. I wonder why)
I'd be sceptical if it was warming though, there are other reasons why proxies change.
